Celebrating Silver: recognition for care of creation

St John's is delighted to share the news of its recent Silver Eco Church award from A Rocha UK, recognising the church’s ongoing commitment to caring for God’s creation.

The Eco Church scheme encourages churches across the country to take practical steps towards sustainability — from worship and teaching to community engagement, land management, and lifestyle. St John’s has been working steadily toward this milestone, with notable initiatives including its thriving Community Wildlife Garden, recycling efforts, and use of environmentally conscious resources.

One of the Eco Officer's is Jane Millat. She said, “Achieving the Silver Eco Church is a great start to the year for St John’s and for the Community Wildlife Garden. It’s such an encouragement as we set out into the new year, hoping to build more connections locally and to see more growth in the garden.

This award marks an important step on St John’s journey towards the coveted Gold Award, and the team hopes their example will inspire other parishes to join the growing Eco Church movement. Every step — however small — helps care for God’s world and future generations.
